K-pop girl band Wonder Girls opened the Valentine’s Day concert of Canadian singing sensation Justin Bieber at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California.
The Wonder Girls sang their hit songs “Nobody” and “Tell Me” to a sold-out crowd composed mostly of—and understandably—pre-pubescent girls who were eager to see 15-year-old Beiber.
Bieber was discovered via YouTube. His debut album “My World” was released in November last year. His four singles made it to the Top 40 of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
His second album, “My World 2.0” will be released in March.
In a review of Bieber’s concert, the Los Angeles Times music blog “Pop & Hiss” described Bieber as the “new David Cassidy.”
“For those who don’t spend much time around teenagers, Bieber is something of a new David Cassidy for the era of Auto-Tune. He has the classic prerequisites of stardom in this demographic: apple cheeks, stunning orthodontics, the sly pout of troublemakers from Tom Sawyer on forward,” wrote the blog’s August Brown.
The Wonder Girls’ performance was first of the last two appearances with member Sunmi who will be leaving the group in March to continue her high school education in South Korea. She is to be replaced by JYP Entertainment trainee Hae Lim.
Sunmi will be doing her last performance with the Wonder Girls at the Pop-Con on Feb. 20 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.
The Pop-Con is an all-day music festival experience, targeted specifically for the Tween market. It has multiple stages, various vendors and games with the amenities of a family-friendly convention environment.
Featuring over half-a-dozen musical artists, skateboarders and young pop icons, Pop-Con aims to be the “pop event with the stars the kids want to see,” according to the event organizer.
The Wonder Girls will be performing at the Pop Con alongside Bieber, Selena Gomez and the Scene, Sean Kingston and other singers.
Girlgroup WonderGirls members SunYe, YooBin, YeEun and SoHee talk about their feelings on SunMi’s leaving the group.
The 4 WonderGirls members had a meeting with their WonderGirls fan union on 8th February and the fan union released the details of the meeting through their fancafe at about 11pm.
According to the representative of the fan union, SunMi’s training was shorter as compared to the other members since her debut she had missed out a much of her schooling life. And the members constantly felt SunMi’s regrets about it after they had their American debut.
They told the fans, “But our responses were the same as fans when it was revealed that SunMi will be stopping her promotions as WonderGirls for the time being. At first we panicked, and said that she will regret this, but after awhile we calmed down and gave our support for her decision.”
They said, “And we know that SunMi is not one to make such decisions lightly, she has been thinking about this for a while, and discussed it with the members and company.”
And the WonderGirls member also explained that rumours of the company pushing SunMi to leave the group is groundless. They said, “Debuting in the States was a dream which all the members have dreamed of. Even though we were afraid with all the saying that it is too early for our American debut, we really wanted to go to the States.”
They added, “The company also do not wish for its singers to be like puppet singers who just listen to whatever the company tells them to do.”
The members also talked about their feelings on SunMi temporarily stopping promotions as part of the WonderGirls. Especially for SoHee, who is of the same age as SunMi and stopped her high school education for her singer career together with SunMi. SoHee said, “It is true that it is hard to be away from the family as a young student, so I understand how SunMi feels. With that said, I believed that she has thought things out since it is her choice after all.”
The WonderGirls also emphasized, “Even though ‘WonderGirls SunMi’ is important, individual ‘SunMi’ is also very important. Since this is her decision on her own life, if us members are to hold on to her, later on when she regrets, we don’t know how we are going to be responsible for that.”
Also, “There are people who are criticising like ‘This is the decision you made in the beginning, why are you calling it ends now?’. We hope people don’t look at it this way since hardship means differently to every individual and they deal with them differently.”
The 4 members of the WonderGirls had the meeting with 5 fan union representative from about 2pm in the afternoon that day.
Meanwhile, on 23rd January it was announced that SunMi will leave WonderGirls for the time being. With that, SunMi will be with the WonderGirls till the end of the month. And from March, she will return to Korea to start preparations for her college life.
And JYP trainee HyeRim (Lim) will be taking over the empty position in the group. Already on 4th February, she had her first official performance as part of the WonderGirls in China for an event.
K-pop girl band Wonder Girls have temporarily halted their activities in the United States following the replacement of member Mimi who will leave the group at the end of this month.
According to the girls’ agency JYP Entertainment, their U.S. tour and the release of their first full-length album in the country has been delayed. Both had been set to take place in late February.
JYP has yet to set a new date for the tour but have confirmed the album will be released in April.
The decision for the postponement comes after the departure of Mimi, who announced earlier this month of returning to Korea to focus on her studies. New member Lim will fill in Mimi’s place and work with the group on their upcoming ventures.
Lim, 17-years-old, was a JYP trainee for three years and is said to speak four languages — Korean, English, Mandarin and Cantonese. She had originally been preparing to debut as a member of the Chinese version of the Wonder Girls.

In an online poll for 80 videos conducted by Musiqtone.com until Sunday, the video for the English version of “Nobody” received 1,249,080 votes or 37 percent of the total to claim the top position.
The runner-up, “Automatic” by German band Tokio Hotel, garnered 400,000 fewer votes for 24 percent of the total.
Musiqtone.com provides news and multimedia content about albums and music videos in the U.S. The Wonder Girls were one of the nominees for the website’s “Artist of the Month” last September.
Heavy voting by Korean netizens may be the reason “Nobody” shot to the top. The poll allowed individuals to vote up to 50 times a day.
The Wonder Girls made their U.S. debut last fall with the English version of “Nobody,” which became the first song ever by a Korean artist to enter the Billboard Hot 100 in October when it ranked 76th.

With February 10th marking the Wonder Girls 3rd anniversary, JYP Entertainment is preparing for a special fan meeting to celebrate the occasion with Wonderfuls. But most importantly, it will be an important channel for fans to communicate with the Wonder Girls about their doubts/queries, regarding Sunmi’s withdrawal especially.

Looks like recent circulating rumors are true – after their very successful run with the Jonas Brothers, the Wonder Girls will be opening for yet another American pop sensation: Justin Bieber!
As the Wonderful fanbase may recall, the rumors were sparked last month when the Wonder Girls revealed on an interview that they would possibly open for a famous male Canadian artist at an upcoming concert. It turns out that these plans have been finalized, and JYP Entertainment has confirmed that the Girls will be rocking the opening stage for Justin Bieber’s February 14th concert in the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Check out details on the concert & grab your tickets at LiveNation while they’re still available!
For those of you that don’t know, Justin Bieber is a fifteen-year-old singer who was discovered by So So Def & Scooter Braun (who became Justin’s manager) and signed into Island Records by Usher. Since then, Justin has swept girls across America off their feet with his catchy tracks, and was named J-14’s Hottest Star of the Year and has been labeled one of the top Youtube stars of the decade.
Furthermore, the Girls will reportedly be flying back to New York to perform at Pop Con the following Wednesday (February 20th), an event that will also feature big name artists like Sean Kingston and Justin Bieber as well. The event will take place in the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY; check out the official website here for more details on the event.
First, the Wonder Girls got to share their summer with the Jonas Brothers, and now they’re spending Valentine’s Day with Justin Bieber – I’m sure this quintet is the envy of countless girls out there in the States and beyond!
